Celebrating 20 Years of Northern Lights: The New Age Show
On April 30, 2001, Northern Lights: The New Age Show was born. Initially a one-hour program broadcast on ACB Radio Interactive, it quickly expanded to two hours, featuring a wide variety of New Age music, as well as sub-genres including Ambient, Smooth Jazz, Meditation, and Global Fusion to name but a few.
The music, presentation, technology and affiliate stations may have changed over the years, but Northern Lights is still going strong.
This week, we’ll be celebrating 20 years of bringing you the best mix of relaxing music. The first hour will primarily focus on tracks broadcast that day in 2001. In addition, we unearthed a recording of that first show, and will let you hear the first few minutes, as originally broadcast over a dial-up connection. Times have changed indeed. We’ve also got some new music as well.
You’re welcome to contact me via email or Twitter. If you’re listening to the live broadcast on The Global Voice, you can also chat with me and other listeners in our public text-based room.
Northern Lights can be heard every Friday at 0:00 UTC (or Thursday evening in the Americas at 8:00 PM Eastern, 5:00 PM Pacific) on The Global Voice. Check our schedule for repeat times throughout the week. Details on other ways to hear the show, or to submit a request, are available on its official home page.
We also have a mailing list you can subscribe to if you’d like to receive weekly playlists of what was played on the show by email. Just send a blank email to nlplaylist+subscribe (at) groups.io and follow the instructions you’ll receive.
